Temporary Interior Signage

Interior signage is a highly visible form of messaging to on-campus audiences. To maintain a campus environment befitting one of the top universities in the world, UBC Okanagan employs the following process.

Requesting an interior signage project

The UR Design Team will provide design services, advise on location options and work with an approved signage company for production, installation and removal.

 

Creating a custom design

To request a custom interior sign, submit a project brief to Wiesje Stoneson, Design Manager.

The project brief must include photos of the preferred location(s), signage measurements, special instructions, preferred installation and removal dates.

The Design Team will support with developing a signage plan (see an example signage plan) that includes a final design mockup, location photos, a campus map with identified locations, special instructions, installation and removal dates.


Installing temporary interior signage

Signage must be installed professionally and removed by a Facilities Planning approved vendor or Facilities Management within 6 weeks or less.

When installing temporary interior signage, there are specific guidelines that need to be met:

Location

Signage will only be installed on surfaces where removal won’t damage the material (e.g. hard surfaces such as floor, windows, mirrors and stairs—not painted walls, wood or tables).

Material

Signage must be created with materials that are easy to remove (e.g. short-term vinyl).

Surface area

A hard, smooth surface is required for adhesive to cure properly.

If an exterior facing window is considered, decal installation is not recommended between November and April, as the surface temperature must be 5°C or above for adhesive to cure.

Once installed, the applicant is responsible for checking the signage locations weekly to ensure that the signs are adhering properly and remains in good condition.


Removing interior signage

Facilities Management can assist with removal at no additional charge. For all temporary signage requests, the Design Team will coordinate removal based on the approved timeline.
