Flags on UBC’s Okanagan campus will be lowered on Friday, October 25, 2019, in memory of Dr. Mercedes Fernandez-Duran, assistant professor of languages and world literature in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. Dr. Fernandez-Duran passed away on October 16, 2019, in Mississauga, Ontario.
A memorial service was held in Ontario on October 22. The family has asked that donations in memory of Dr. Mercedes Fernandez-Duran be made to:
- UBC Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies
- Mount Sinai Hospital Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care
- Holy Blossom Temple – Toronto, Ontario
- Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (VASS) in Memory of Mercedes Fernandez-Duran and Leon Cogan
